Lecturer Elizabeth Jones presents “Stella the Steelworker in the Mon Valley,” a fascinating and factual look at the role of women in the area’s steel industry during World War II.

When the men of the Monongahela Valley went off to fight the wars in Europe and South Pacific, it was the women who shouldered the responsibility of the area steel production. Making as little as 56 cents an hour, these women maintained America’s strength on two fronts while helping to produce sixty-five percent of all of the steel used in the war.
